We almost lost our chance at capturing the shadow because you two were fighting over a lighter.
"It wasn’t the lighter we were fighting over, love."
It’s literally canonically established as a metaphor for ‘winning’ Emma’s affections and it ended with Emma choosing neither of them, lighting the damn candle herself, and not even with the lighter, but with the magic she learned from Regina. And to make it perfectly clear, if that didn’t drive home the point well enough, we have Emma specifically saying “Regina” is how she did it.
when they leave neverland it’s emma who has the lighter and lights the cannon. two dudes screwing everything up almost ruining her chance of ever saving henry never even giving emma the option to do anything but choose either of them. meanwhile regina’s influence is felt without her being there. emma chooses neither she saves them and saves herself and it was regina and only regina who made that possible.
